cloud platforms

Move to the cloud without disrupting your business.

We help you decide what to move, when and how. From readiness assessment to landing zone, migration waves and optimization, Hinkor delivers a cloud foundation your teams can run with confidence.

Overview

Cloud Migration & Modernization

Cloud Migration & Modernization helps organizations move applications, data and infrastructure to the cloud in a planned, low-risk way.

We assess your current estate, recommend the right approach for each workload and build a secure landing zone before anything moves. Workloads are then migrated in planned waves, with tested cutover and rollback steps. Where it adds value, we modernize the platform itself by adopting containers, managed databases and other platform services.

The result is a cloud environment that is secure, cost-visible and ready for your team or a managed service to operate.

Who this is for

  • IT leaders facing a data center exit, hardware refresh or expiring hosting contract
  • Organizations with stalled or partially completed cloud migrations
  • Teams consolidating multiple cloud accounts or providers under one governance model
  • Businesses that need cloud scale without rewriting every application

What gets in the way

Challenges this service addresses

  • Unclear starting point

Without a full view of applications, dependencies and costs, it is hard to decide what to migrate, in what order and to which platform.

  • Risk of business disruption

Critical systems cannot afford extended downtime, and tightly coupled dependencies make cutover planning difficult.

  • Security and compliance gaps

Moving workloads raises new questions about identity, access, data residency and regulatory obligations that on-premises controls do not answer.

  • Rising, unpredictable cloud costs

Workloads moved as-is often run oversized, and without tagging or budgets, spending grows faster than value.

  • Limited skills and capacity

Internal teams must keep current systems running while learning new platforms, tooling and operating practices.

What we do

Capabilities

Each capability can be scoped on its own or combined into a larger programme of work.

Capability 01

Cloud Readiness & Strategy

Assess your estate and define the migration strategy, target platform and business case that fit your priorities.

  • Application and infrastructure discovery
  • Dependency mapping
  • Migration approach for each workload
  • Business case and roadmap

Capability 02

Landing Zone & Cloud Foundation

Design and build a secure, scalable foundation with identity, networking, policies and guardrails in place before workloads move.

  • Account and subscription structure
  • Identity and access integration
  • Network and hybrid connectivity
  • Policies and guardrails as code

Capability 03

Workload Migration

Migrate servers, databases and applications in planned waves, with tested cutover and rollback procedures.

  • Wave planning
  • Server and virtual machine migration
  • Database migration
  • Cutover and rollback planning

Capability 04

Platform Modernization

Move suitable workloads to containers, managed databases and platform services to reduce operational effort, with little or no code change.

  • Containerization
  • Managed database adoption
  • Platform service adoption
  • Storage and backup modernization

Capability 05

Cloud Cost & Governance Setup

Establish visibility and control over cloud spending, usage and policy compliance from the first workload.

  • Cost allocation and tagging
  • Budgets and alerts
  • Reserved capacity planning
  • Compliance reporting

What changes

Business outcomes

  • Faster provisioning for new business initiatives
  • Greater scalability and resilience for critical systems
  • Cloud spending linked to business value
  • Less dependence on ageing hardware and hosting contracts
  • A governed foundation ready for data and AI workloads

How we work

Our approach

  1. 1 Assess Discover applications, dependencies and costs, and agree the migration approach for each workload.
  2. 2 Design Define the target architecture, landing zone and migration waves, including cutover and rollback plans.
  3. 3 Build Build the landing zone as code and migrate workloads wave by wave.
  4. 4 Test Validate performance, security and functionality before each cutover, with business sign-off.
  5. 5 Launch Complete cutover, provide hypercare and hand over to your team or a managed service.

Why Hinkor

How we back that up

  • Assessment before commitment

Every migration starts with discovery of your actual estate, so recommendations reflect your dependencies and costs, not a generic template.

  • Foundation built as code

Landing zones are delivered as infrastructure as code, so your environment is repeatable, auditable and fully owned by you.

  • Provider-neutral advice

We work across AWS, Azure and Google Cloud and recommend the platform that fits your workloads, skills and existing agreements.

  • Planned for operations

Migrations end with runbooks and a structured handover to your team or Hinkor Managed Services, not just a completed cutover.

FAQ

Questions about Cloud Migration & Modernization

If your question is not here, ask it directly.

Ask a direct question
How do we decide which workloads to move first?

We start by discovering your applications, dependencies, usage and costs. Each workload is assessed for business value, complexity and risk, then grouped into migration waves. Early waves usually contain lower-risk workloads that validate the landing zone and build confidence before critical systems move.

How do you minimize downtime during migration?

Each wave has a tested cutover plan, a rollback procedure and an agreed maintenance window. Where possible, data is replicated continuously so downtime is limited to the final switchover. Business owners sign off after validation testing.

Do you work with a specific cloud provider?

We work with AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. If you already have a provider or enterprise agreement, we build on it. If not, we compare options against your workloads, skills, compliance needs and commercial terms.

How is this different from Application Modernization?

Cloud Migration & Modernization moves workloads to the cloud and adopts platform services such as containers and managed databases, with little or no code change. Application Modernization changes the application itself through refactoring or re-architecture. Many programs need both, and we plan them together.

What happens after the migration is complete?

Each migration includes a hypercare period, documentation and runbooks. You can then operate the environment with your own team, retain Hinkor for ongoing optimization, or move to our Managed Cloud & Infrastructure service.
